Grief over a lost pregnancy

Grief over a lost pregnancy. There are many subtitles that are under a lost pregnancy. The first is a miscarriage. A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy. Approximately half of all fertilized are lost spontaneously, usually before the woman knows she is pregnant. Among women who know they are pregnant, about 10% to 25% will have a miscarriage. Most miscarriages occur during the first 7 weeks of pregnancy. The rate of miscarriage drops after the baby’s heartbeat is detected.  The risk for miscarriage increases after age 30 and becomes even higher between ages 35 and 40. The risk is the highest after age 40, and in women who have had several miscarriages.

Early stillbirth is a fetal death that occurs between 20 and 27 weeks. A late stillbirth occurs between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. A term stillbirth occurs between 37 or more weeks of pregnancy. Stillbirths occur in about 1 in 160 births. Medical technology has reduced the number of late stillbirths, and the rate of early stillbirths is about the same.

Grief is an individualized feeling, grief takes as long as it takes. This means everyone processes grief differently and learns to deal with it.
